National champion guard suffered an injury in unbelievable fashion

They will need someone to step up in Berry's absence.

It was reported earlier in the week that senior guard Joel Berry II could miss up to four weeks after suffering a broken bone in his dominant hand.

North Carolina coach Roy Williams shared news on Wednesday that Berry suffered the injury punching a door after playing a video game, per ESPN.

Seriously.

"He did a silly thing," North Carolina coach Roy Williams told ESPN at ACC media day Wednesday. "That's what it was. One of his greatest characteristics is his competitiveness."

Berry II was expected to be in the conversation for National Player of the Year honors this year and it looks like he will have some ground to make up to start the year.

The Tar Heels aren't expected to be as good as their championship-winning squad from last season, but they are a top-15 team in the preseason Coaches Poll and should stay that way most of the season. However, Theo Pinson, Seventh Woods, Cameron Johnson, and Kenny Williams will have to step up in Berry's absence and make sure the team doesn't fall off without his 14.7 points and 3.6 assists per game from last season.
