20 years ago, Lee Corso started his iconic headgear pick tradition

Corso has continued the tradition to this day.

ESPN's College GameDay has come a long way in 20 years.

Lee Corso's headgear pick may be an iconic part of every Saturday now, but it wasn't always that way. The GameDay crew has done their picks before, but it was 20 years ago today — October 5, 1996 — that Corso decided to make his standout by wearing the actual headgear of the team's mascot. Corso has made the headgear pick in some fashion at nearly every GameDay since this one.

Corso picked Ohio State by donning the head of Brutus the Buckeye, and the Buckeyes rewarded him with by beating Penn State by a 38-7 score.
