After painful upset, Dabo Swinney says one crucial position is open for competition

Oh boy.

Clemson lost one of its most underrated weapons in kicker Greg Huegel a few weeks back because of a torn ACL. His replacement in Alex Spence has been less than stellar and now coach Dabo Swinney is declaring the kicker spot an open competition. Here's what he said to the media via TigerNet:

"I think everything is open. When you lose a ball game, you look at everything. Now he's 2-for-6, so he's had plenty of opportunities. It's not like we're kicking 50-yarders. Nobody is more disappointed than him. Physically, he can do it, it just hasn't quite transitioned for him right now to the game field.

"But after six opportunities, being 2-for-6, that's just not where we need to be. So absolutely. We're going to look at all options."

He was also 1-for-3 in the Syracuse game that the Tigers lost 27-24. If he hits one or both of the missed field goals Clemson at least has a chance to go and win the game and he likely doesn't get called out by Swinney during a Monday press conference. The only other available kicker is Christian Groomes who has made the only two PAT kicks he's attempted so it looks like he will get a chance to become the starter.
