The Clemson Tigers will have their hands full against the country’s best defense in Boston College. However, the Eagles are one of the worst offensive teams this year as well — as evidenced by the 3-0 loss to Wake Forest last week. Clemson should have no problem winning this game, but it won’t be a high scoring affair. Here are three things we should expect to see from the Tigers on Saturday.
1. A shutout on defense – It’s not unreasonable to think that a top 15 defense in Clemson can shut out a bottom-feeder offense in Boston College. The game is in Death Valley, which will help confuse an Eagles offense only averaging 20.7 points a game, and if you take away the 76-point outburst against a hapless Howard team, they are only averaging 9.6 points per game. Two of those games have been shutouts by lesser teams.
2. Score three touchdowns – Clemson should be able to grind out 21 points in this game and it should be more than enough to get the win. Boston College only allows 7.2 points a game, but Clemson has the most potent offense the Eagles have seen so far this year. Deshaun Watson will be the most dynamic quarterback they’ve seen so far this season and he can run the ball as well, which might stress this defense to a new limit.
3. We will not get a Dancing Dabo scene – Clemson is heavily favored to win this game — by 16 points according to Vegas Insider — and so if Clemson wins, don’t expect the head coach to get too giddy about it. He already gave us a great moment after the Notre Dame game with his epic rant and dance in the locker room so don’t expect anything too flashy this time around. He’s waiting for the FSU game to exorcise some demons and I think we’ll get some excitement should Clemson win that one.
The game is set to kick off on ESPNU at 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
