The only consensus about this year’s NFL Draft is that Leonard Fournette and Dalvin Cook are the two best running backs. And most people would say that Fournette is the better pro out of the two because of his physical running style and ability to absolutely truck anyone that comes into contact with him. However, there is one analyst that thinks Cook is the superior back.

Most mock drafts have Fournette going in the top 10 of the draft while Cook will be a mid-to-late first round rounder. However, analyst Bucky Brooks thinks that Cook will be the better pro because of his ability to catch footballs out of the backfield. Here’s what Brooks wrote on the subject:

“While the rugged runner from the Bayou certainly deserves a top grade based on his impressive set of tools (size, speed, power and vision) and ultra-physical running style, the dynamic playmaking potential of Florida State’s Dalvin Cook could make him a better pro when it is all said and done. I know that might be considered blasphemy in some circles based on the Fournette’s reputation as a game changer, but a close look at Cook’s game reveals an electric multi-purpose runner with a knack for delivering explosive plays whenever he has the ball in his hands.”

Cook caught almost twice as many balls as Fournette over the course of their three-year careers and that could be the difference for offenses that rely so much on the pass. If you can block and catch balls as a running back you have a strong chance of lasting in the league.

Some numbers to compare between the two players:

Leonard Fournette – 3,830 rushing yards/40 rushing touchdowns (1 receiving)/526 receiving yards
Dalvin Cook – 4,464 rushing yards/46 rushing touchdowns (2 receiving)/935 receiving yards
