This could be a big hire for Willie Taggart and Florida State.

New Florida State head coach Willie Taggart may be an offensive coach, but it doesn't look like he's going to let the defense falter under his watch.

On Friday, FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman reportedly that Florida State plans to hire Michigan State co-defensive coordinator Harlon Barnett.

Barnett has been a defensive backs coach with Michigan State for a decade, and he was recently promoted to assistant head coach/co-defensive coordinator. During his time at Michigan State under Mark Dantonio, the Spartans have generally graded out well defensively, which includes allowing just 20 points per game (19th in FBS) this past season.

Michigan State was 10-3 this season after defeating Washington State in the Holiday Bowl.

If Barnett does indeed join, it will be a big position filled for Taggart's defensive staff at Florida State. The Seminoles also have defensive line coach Odell Haggins on board, as the school announced recently that Taggart would be retaining the popular Florida State assistant.
