Five-star PG Trae Young says UK 'couldn't compete' with other schools in one regard

That's pretty surprising.

Five-star point guard Trae Young has had one of the most watched recruitments this season as the 2017 class lacks a lot of elite point guards. Young is one of them and has kept his options wide open as the No. 3 point guard in the class according to 247Sports.

Young and his family recently had a writer from USA Today in their home to talk about the recruiting process and which schools they all liked best. While both of Trae's parents were high on Kentucky, there was one thing holding him back on the prospect of committing there and it was one amenity that he would not consider elite.

Trae's mom, Candice, actually pointed out how bad the dorms were in Lexington and Trae could not have agreed more.

"But the housing... They've got the worst dorms out of all the schools," his mother said.

"Yeah they did," Trae says with a laugh. "But to Coach Cal's point, you don't pick a school based on the housing."

"Yeah, but you've gotta live there for nine months," Candice replies. "I mean come on now it was one room, the sink was in the bedroom; definitely traditional old school dorm room."

"Yeah, the rooms couldn't compete with Kansas, Oklahoma State and those other schools," Trae says. "It's not up to date."

Looks like Kentucky has one part of its recruiting pitch to work on now. If Kentucky wants to be the "gold standard" when it comes to college basketball recruiting it might want an update for the dorms.  In January of 2016, Governor Matt Bevin announced $21 million will be allotted to the lodge to expand dining for all student-athletes, so that seems like a good start.
