No. 4 team in the country falls causing major shakeup in College Football Playoff picture

The College Football Playoff picture experienced a major shakeup in Week 9.

No. 25 Iowa State defeated No. 4 TCU, 14-7, at home on Saturday, earning its second victory against a top-4 team this season.

Quarterback Kyle Kempt threw for 203 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 21-of-35 passing, connecting with seven different receivers. Allen Lazard led the Cyclones with 106 yards on  receptions, while Hakeem Butler and Matthew Eaton each caught touchdown passes in the first half.

TCU answered a 14-0 halftime deficit with a 94-yard kick return touchdown by KaVontae Turpin to open the third quarter. However, the Horned Frogs were kept out of the end zone for the remainder of the game and went 4-14 on third down attempts.

The Cyclones forced two turnovers in their own red zone, including a fumble midway through the fourth quarter to prevent the Horned Frogs from tying the game.

Marcel Spears Jr., intercepted TCU quarterback Kenny Hill on the Horned Frogs' final possession, which led allowed the Cyclones to take a knee on the ensuing two plays to end the game.

Iowa State had previously defeated No. 3 Oklahoma, 38-31 in Norman three weeks ago.
