Kirk Herbstreit has two huge surprises in his way-too-early top five

He thinks pretty highly of a couple teams here.

After every week of college football, Kirk Herbstreit gives us his top five teams and with the last game of the season being played last night, he did it one more time for us. He listed his way-too-early top five and did not have Clemson on his list at all nor did he have Alabama at the top of it.

While Florida State makes sense to be in the top five, calling them the top team might be a stretch considering the Seminoles are losing the best running back in the school's history to the NFL Draft and a great defensive lineman in DeMarcus Walker. However, they do return some key receivers and quarterback Deondre Francois.

Putting LSU in his top five is almost unconscionable though for Herbstreit. The Tigers lose Leonard Fournette, but do have Derrius Guice coming back. However, the QB situation is not tenable and the defense is losing some important pieces as well. USC and Penn State are expected to be playoff contenders next year so that's not too bad, but the order is pretty odd for Herbsreit.
