Notre Dame used to be considered a powerhouse except for the last few years where they have not been great the past few seasons culminating in a 4-8 record last year. Not only are they guaranteeing a title and a huge win over Michigan to open the 2018 season — the first season this recruit would be playing for them — but they think Houston Griffith could win the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given out to the best defensive back in the country. There are a lot of promises being made here by a program that is seemingly on life support after some mediocre years and one really bad one.

Griffith is a 6’1″, 192-pound cornerback in the 2018 class who plays for the IMG Academy in Florida. He’s ranked as the No. 8 cornerback and the No. 11 recruit in the state of Florda in theĀ by 247Sportsā€™ Composite Rankings.Ā Florida State, Georgia, Nebraska and Ohio State are also believed to be in serious contention according to the 247Sports crystal ball.
