Five-star DE Brenton Cox decommits from Ohio State

Cox is the No. 2 defensive end in the nation.

This is a major shakeup in recruiting.

On Wednesday, five-star defensive end Brenton Cox (6-foot-5, 247 pounds, Stockbridge, Ga.) announced that he had decommitted from Ohio State.

I Want to thank the whole OSU organization and fan base for welcoming me into the buckeye family, but i would like to decommit, Thanks for everything

Cox had been committed to Ohio State since April.

Cox is one of the top recruits of the 2018 class, and now his commitment could become a major x-factor for several schools. According to 247Sports, Georgia and Alabama are now both major players for Cox following his decommit from the Buckeyes.

The decommit won't hurt Ohio State too much; they got the commitment of five-star safety Tyreke Johnson on Tuesday, and they maintain their position as the No. 1 class across the board. That said, Cox has real potential to be a star at the college level, and now it looks like he could be heading somewhere else.
