Five-star Ohio State player officially out following surgery

Ohio State won't be at full strength for Spring Practice.

The Ohio State Buckeyes, as usual, cleaned up with regard to the 2017 recruiting class. Urban Meyer is known as a high-end recruiter and he certainly didn't disappoint in bringing in a group headlined by five-star linebacker Baron Browning. However, Browning's career in Columbus isn't off to the best start as a result of injury.

Ben Axelrod of Land of 10 brings word that Browning will miss the rest of Spring Practice after going under the knife for shoulder surgery on Tuesday. Per the report, Meyer did not get into specifics with regard to Browning's ailment but, in the same breath, it speaks volumes that he actually had to be operated on to repair the injury.

Browning, who stands at 6'2 and 230 pounds, was the No. 11 overall prospect in the 2017 class according to 247Sports composite rankings and he doubled as the No. 1 linebacker in the country. While there is no reason, at least at this point, to believe that he will be impacted when it comes to his true freshman season, Browning was seen as a potential contributor immediately for the Buckeyes in 2017 and this absence could hinder his progress in the short term.

Ohio State certainly has enough defensive talent to make up for this hiccup but fans of the Buckeyes will certainly be hoping for a swift and full recovery for a potential long-term standout.
