One coaching candidate reportedly hit his Houston interview 'out of the park'

This would be a good hire by Houston.

It appears that Lane Kiffin isn't the only offensive coordinator that is on Houston's short list for their head coach position.

According to CBS's Dennis Dodd, Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley hit his interview "out of the park", citing multiple sources stating that they would be surprised if Riley didn't get the job.

The 33-year old Riley is a Texas Tech product that has been Oklahoma's offensive coordinator for the past two seasons. The Sooners have had one of college football's most prolific offenses over that two-year span, and many credit the young Riley for their success. Riley was a winner of the 2015 Broyles Award as college football's top assistant, and it seems like it's only a matter of time before he gets his shot at being a head coach.

Riley would be a great fit for Houston as well, as he might give Houston more security than Kiffin. Many see Kiffin as a guy that could quickly springboard the Houston job towards something bigger, while it figures that Riley would at least give it a few years before taking another position.

Riley having years of experience recruiting the Texas and Oklahoma areas could be a major factor if the race comes down to him and Kiffin, too.

Kiffin is still seen as the top candidate, but it looks like the field closed a major gap and has made things interesting for whom Houston will hire.
