New Jacksonville exec Tom Coughlin is reportedly blocking his HC from making a hire

Coughlin is a new executive for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It looks like new Jacksonville executive Tom Coughlin is already exerting his power over his new head coach.

According to Alex Marvez of Sporting News and Sirius XM Radio, Coughlin is blocking head coach Doug Marrone from hiring defensive coach Donnie Henderson as an assistant for the Jaguars.

The 2005 incident that Marvez describes happened during a preseason scrimmage between the Jets and the Giants. Coughlin, as head coach of the Giants at the time, got into a argument with Henderson, then the defensive coordinator of the Jets, after the scrimmage got more physical than was expected.

Henderson has been with Marrone on multiple coaching staffs, including working for Marrone for both Syracuse and the Buffalo Bills. Marrone apparently has some level of trust in Henderson, and Coughlin outright blocking Marrone from making the hire could hint at some power struggles down the line.
