ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit has spoken!
The annual preseason "Herbie Awards" are up on ESPN, and as part of his predictions, Herbstreit named his picks for this year's College Football Playoffs, as well as a national champion. Those picks:
Playoff:
Alabama
Florida State
Ohio State
USC
National Champion:
Ohio State over Alabama
If this actually happens, the rematch possibilities are hilarious considering that Alabama will have played all three of those teams in the past three years in major matchups going into that Playoff set up. What could possibly be more intriguing than USC trying to prove that 52-6 was a fluke, or Alabama trying to get revenge from their loss in the Playoffs to Ohio State from a few years ago?
Another intriguing scenario: this Playoff prediction leaves out the Big 12 champion, which would mark the third time in four years that such a thing happened. In his predictions, Herbstreit picked TCU over Oklahoma to win the Big 12 in what would likely be an upset, but if the Big 12 gets left out again... there's no way that the conference is happy about that happening yet again.
