The No. 4 Washington Huskies were already reeling after senior outside linebacker Joe Mathis went down for the season, and the College Football Playoff hopeful lost another top defender Saturday night against USC.
The team leader in tackles per game (7.6), another linebacker, Azeem Victor went down with an apparent right leg injury.
While making a tackle, Victor's foot stuck in the turf and it looked like his knee bent awkwardly. Victor had to be carted off the field and his right leg was immobilized.
Immediately after he went off the field, USC notched a touchdown to take a 10-3 lead early in the second quarter.
It was announced Monday that team's top pass rusher and team sack leader, senior outside linebacker Mathis would undergo season-ending foot surgery.
Mathis reportedly attempted to rehab the foot in hopes of returning, but he won't take the field again for Washington after suffering the injury in a win over Oregon in October, per Seattle Times.
Mathis had 25 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss and five sacks this season over just six games, helping push Washington out toward the front in terms of national production with 24 team sacks. Without Mathis, the Huskies had just three sacks coming into Saturday's game.
Victor had 68 tackles on the season with one forced fumble.
