Michigan could be adding another NFL coach to their staff

Jim Harbaugh continues to search for assistant coaches and his lure could be enticing for another interesting name.

It isn't every day that a comfortable NFL coach begins to look elsewhere for employment, but that might be the case with an assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns. The team's assistant head coach for offense, Pep Hamilton, is reportedly weighing a move back to the college ranks, where he would join Jim Harbaugh's staff for the Michigan Wolverines.

This isn't a typical career move given the fact that Hamilton apparently has job security at the professional level.

However, if you look beyond the periphery, it does make some sense. Hamilton worked for Harbaugh on the staff at Stanford from 2010 to 2012 before leaving to join the Indianapolis Colts offensive staff in 2013. That mirrored the trajectory of a former Stanford quarterback in Andrew Luck, and the lure of molding a college QB could be important for Hamilton once again.

Michigan recently lost passing game coordinator Jedd Fisch to UCLA and there is a specific opening on Harbaugh's staff in that regard. Beyond that, the Wolverines are paying quite handsomely for their assistant coaches at this point in time, and Hamilton might enjoy additional long-term security in college given the relative safety of Harbaugh in Ann Arbor.

This doesn't appear to be a done deal at this point, but Jim Harbaugh continues to have a specific draw that transcends simple job status.
