Devin Asiasi was a big-time recruiting get for Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines. Unfortunately for those clad in maize and blue, Asiasi elected to transfer away from Ann Arbor after his freshman season in 2016 and, since that announcement arrived, there has been plenty of speculation as to where the talented tight end would land.
Now, we know where Asiasi is headed and it is back to the West Coast to join the UCLA Bruins.
The 6'3, 287-pound rising sophomore was a top-50 recruit when he enrolled at Michigan and this is an important move for both programs. Asiasi profiles more as a dynamic blocking tight end than as a downfield threat long-term given his size, but he appeared in all 13 games for the Wolverines last season and likely would have enjoyed a bigger role after the graduation of Jake Butt.
As for UCLA, this is basically an addition to their 2018 recruiting class, as Asiasi will almost certainly have to sit out the 2017 season. Still, Jim Mora and company pick up a wildly talented prospect that can grow within the program for a full year and, when he is finally eligible, Asiasi could easily be the starting tight end for the Bruins for multiple seasons.
