When we last heard from four-star safety Devon Hunter, he was cancelling an official visit to Auburn and narrowing down his list of choices for his college destination. Now, we have further clarity on where he will spend the next step in his playing career and it is in Blacksburg as a member of the Virginia Tech Hokies.

247Sports reports that Hunter was verbally offered by Virginia Tech five years ago when Frank Beamer was still at the helm, and this is a fantastic get for Justin Fuente and his staff. Before this news, it appeared as if Hunter was weighing a decision between North Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Virginia Tech, but the Hokies apparently made the best pitch.
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound safety from Chesapeake, Va. ranks as the No. 3 safety in the country and one of the top 50 players overall according to 247's composite rankings and Hunter is a wildly talented player. Under Fuente, the Hokies appear poised to take the next step when it comes to being a recruiting power and, with Hunter's commitment, that plan appears to be fully in the works beginning with the 2017 class.
Not every top-50 prospect pans out in ideal fashion, but landing them is half the battle and Virginia Tech did just that with Devon Hunter.
