Oregon has reportedly removed one of college football's biggest names from its search

This is going to come back to bite them.

P.J. Fleck has done a remarkable job turning around a one-win Western Michigan team from Year 1 to an unblemished 13-0 squad just three years later.

And according to Oregon Live, prior rumors about Fleck's receiving an interview with the Ducks are just that — rumors.

According to the report, Fleck did not interview Saturday, will not on Sunday and may not at all even on Monday. John Canzano repeated that sentiment later in the report, detailing that he believes there is "no real interest from Oregon's side."

As for the reasoning, it seems like something Oregon will live to regret:

"Also, his geography is a factor. Also, post-Mark Helfrich it feels like Oregon may be looking for a correction in experience and standing. Fleck might just be too early in his coaching arc for this time around."

Fleck's squad is 13-0 with a potential trip to the Cotton Bowl ahead of it. The 36-year old Fleck has proven to be one of the most energetic and quirky coaches in college football, and his influence would bring a big culture change to any program that hires him.

South Florida's Willie Taggart has reportedly interviewed for the position.

Oregon is searching for a new head coach after they fired Mark Helfrich on Tuesday. Helfrich was very successful in his first three seasons at Oregon, but the program was clearly going in the wrong direction after a 4-8 season that featured one of the worst defenses in all of college football.
