College football coach taking unexpected leave of absence just a week before the season starts

This is unfortunate.

It's not often coaches suddenly leave the team or take an absence right before the season starts. However, that is the case for Kent State coach Paul Haynes as he will take a medical leave of absence.

Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Don Treadwell will take over in the interim. The Golden Flashes start their season next weekend against Clemson.
