Penn State released a statement on Saturday, notifying the public that a threat had been placed on Beaver Stadium. Police reportedly gave the all-clear after "several exhaustive searches" found no risks for Saturday's game against Minnesota.
University officials announced that today's Penn State home football game against the University of Minnesota will be held as planned, with a scheduled 3:30 p.m. kick off. Gates open two hours before the start of the game.
"Out of an abundance of caution we are notifying fans and the public of the threat that was received, so that they can make their own choices about personal safety and their attendance at today's game," said David Gray, senior vice president for Finance and Business. "Our first obligation is to the safety of the public and, while police and safety officials have given an all-clear for today's game, we wanted to ensure that visitors were aware of this decision."
Penn State is urging all fans to take caution with the game, and that increased security measures will be in place following the threat.
Penn State did not release any details on the nature of the threat on the stadium. The game against Minnesota will be Penn State's third home game of the season.
