It was reported on Thursday evening that Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck was likely on his way to Minnesota, and multiple outlets have confirmed that news on Friday morning.

Fleck stayed put in Kalamazoo through the original coaching carousel at the end of the season, and it looked like there was potential for him to stay at Western Michigan for at least another season. However, Minnesota fired head coach Tracy Claeys earlier this week, and it looks like the Golden Gophers broke out the piggy bank to make Fleck the head of their program.
Years there seem too vary a bit, but both with $3.5 million annually for Fleck; a huge number for Minnesota to pay out and it would be about a 150-percent increase over what Claeys was being paid. If that is eventually what Fleck signs for, then it is easy to see why he would make the jump to a difficult situation in Minneapolis.
Fleck was 30-22 in his tenure at Western Michigan, turning the program around from a 1-11 season when he arrived to a 13-1 season this year with a berth in the Cotton Bowl.
