Potential Oregon candidate takes veiled shot at Tom Herman, others while turning down job interest

Herman bolted for Texas after less than two years at Houston, not quite finishing the Cougars' run to a bowl game.

You can count UCF head coach and former Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost among those not interested in the Oregon head coaching job, or any other position at this time.

Here's what he told the Orlando Sentinel:

"I'm not a candidate for Oregon," Frost told reporters Thursday. "I'm happy right here. This is where I want to be. I started something here, and I feel like we've taken a lot of steps to get this program to the top of our league. I want to see that through. I'm really happy here and have no intention of leaving anytime soon."

Frost, who has taken UCF from winless to bowl eligible in his first season, continued on, shooting from the hip at the coaching carousel in a pretty veiled shot at Tom Herman and others who have bounced early from positions:

"When you recruit kids to come play for you and you agree to do something for a program; when you give your word to people, I think it's your responsibility to see those things through," he said.

"A lot of coaches are in a hurry to take the next step. I think you get yourself in trouble when you take a step before you're ready or before the time is right. I'm committed to making this place [UCF] a really good football program that can win and win consistently in our league. I'm not planning on looking for a job until we get to that point."

Herman bolted for Texas after less than two years at Houston, not quite finishing the Cougars' run to a bowl game.

Coaches such as P.J. Fleck at Western Michigan and Jeff Brohm from Western Kentucky could join Herman as the latest to bounce from another position to a higher tiered program.
