Cal fired head coach Sonny Dykes on Sunday.

It looks like the Cal Bears could be looking to invade SEC country with the hire of their next head coach.

According to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports, Cal is giving a lot of interest to current Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason for their currently vacant position.

Cal fired head coach Sonny Dykes on Sunday, leaving a lot of speculation that they may already have a popular name in mind to fill the position. Coaches usually aren't fired at this point in the season without some scandal, and many thought that Cal have been opening the doors for current coaching free agent Chip Kelly.

Mason, a former Stanford assistant originally hired by Jim Harbaugh, has been the head coach at Vanderbilt for three seasons. He is 13-24 in those three seasons, but he did show some progress this year with a 6-7 showing.
