Report: One SEC coach could be fired despite $15M buyout

That's a lot of money to pay off...

While there's a lot of focus on Charlie Strong job status at Texas, it is apparently another school in Texas that everyone needs to keep their eyes on.

A USA Today report noted on Thursday that it appears Strong's job may be safe for the year, but that Kevin Sumlin's job at Texas A&M might not be. After a 6-0 start, A&M now sits at 7-3 on the season, which has been the nature of their season's under Sumlin recently.

Since Johnny Manziel departed, the Aggies are 11-12 in the SEC and could be headed to another unsatisfying fourth-place finish in the SEC West. Texas A&M should beat Texas-San Antonio on Saturday, but another home loss in the season finale to surging LSU could put him in jeopardy despite his hefty $15.4 million buyout.

Sumlin is in his fifth year at Texas A&M, and things have gradually fallen since an 11-2 start to his tenure in College Station. It would seem a bit premature to get rid of Sumlin, but if the administration is so unhappy that they are considering paying off a $15 million buyout... that can't be good.

The worst part for Sumlin? He will be without starting quarterback Trevor Knight for the remainder of the year. Things could get ugly at Texas A&M over the next couple of weeks.
