Report: Oregon has already eliminated a group of coaches from its ongoing search

That will narrow it down a bit.

Oregon fired head coach Mark Helfrich on Tuesday night —- a whole day before they said they would! —- and now the coaching search begins. It's the first time since 1976 that Oregon has actually fired a coach so the process may not seem totally familiar to the school.

There have already been some rumors as to who might be targeted by Oregon, but it seems that there's one group of coaches the Ducks will zero in on.

That leaves out the likes of P.J. Fleck at Western Michigan, Bryan Harsin from Boise State, Scott Frost from UCF and even Chip Kelly who got his big break at Oregon. However, that does leave the door open for Florida's Jim McElwain (assuming this isn't a power play for more money), Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano (also of Rutgers head coaching fame), Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and Dana Holgorsen of West Virginia.
