ESPN, quoting a court affidavit, said the 35-year-old assistant coach was arrested at a Chattanooga hotel after threatening to kill the hotel clerk and "hang him from a noose" because his hotel key wasn't working. The affidavit alleges he slapped his hands on the desk several times and was angry because his key had failed to work on numerous occasions, and he said he'd kill the clerk if it didn't work the next time.

Brumett was released on bail for $4,000.

Brumett had been with the school as an assistant since 2015, and he played for the school from 2001-03.

East Tennessee State head coach Carl Torbush said the search for Brumett's replacement would begin immediately.
