Alabama no longer the leader for 4-star safety Myles Mason

The race is wide open.

Alabama is no longer the leader for the hometown four-star safety Myles Mason as he told 247sports.

"(Alabama is) tied with FSU right now," Mason told BamaOnLine.

When asked why Alabama was in the top two, he listed winning tradition and preparation for life after football as the reasoning.

As for Florida State:

"Their defensive scheme, they have a lot of DBs on the field at once," he said. "Coach Kelley really impressed me the way he kept it real with me. And their campuses are beautiful. And I can't leave out the food was amazing."

He's the third recruit to be wowed by the food.

Mason, a 6'2", 185-pound prospect, is the No. 19 overall safety in the 2018 class.

247sports' Crystal Ball lists Alabama the 100 percent favorite to land Mason, but with so much time left in the recruiting period, the 'Noles could make a real difference down the stretch.

Mason hopes to make a final decision this summer, per the report. But if he waits a bit longer, he could let the season-opener choose his fate when Alabama takes on the Seminoles in Atlanta.
