Alabama offensive lineman commit announces he's re-opening his recruitment

Evan Neal committed to Alabama on May 6.

Alabama offensive lineman commit Evan Neal (6-foot-6, 350 pounds, Okeechobie, Fla.) has made a change in his recruitment status. After receiving an offer from Nick Saban earlier this month, he immediately committed on May 6, as Bama was the 2019 prospect's dream school. However according to 247Sports, Neal has decided as of Sunday that he has decided to re-open his recruitment to other schools.

"What kid wouldn't want to go to Alabama?" Evan's father Eddie Neal said via 247Sports. "I'd love for my son to play for Alabama, but I feel he made his decision too early. He may have been caught up in the emotion of the offer. He's only 15 years old and there's a lot that can change between now and when he signs."

Neal reportedly spent the last few weeks talking the decision over with his family. Given that Neal is only just a high school freshman, it probably is a smart decision to keep his options open since he is so young.

"I'm only a freshman, I still have time and anything could change. I still hope I play for Alabama, but I'm opening up my recruitment. I still have the same feelings for Alabama and I love Alabama," Evan Neal said.

Neal has not yet made any visits to schools just yet, but has plans to do so this summer. This story will continue to be updated as it develops.
