It truly isn't fair just how many weapons Alabama has all over the field. On a team as deep and as good as Alabama you wouldn't expect it, put one of the biggest weapons on the roster is the leg of punter JK Scott. Scott has been a weapon ever since he began punting his freshman year, constantly flipping field position and burying opponents offenses deep in their own territory.
Saban has continuously lauded Scott for the difference he makes and his teammates understand his value. Earlier this week the ten finalists were released for the Ray Guy award which goes to the best punter in college football and somehow JK Scott's name was left off the list.
Scott is second nationally with a 48.4-yard punting average through 10 games and has placed 13 of his 36 punts inside the 20-yard line this year but didn't make the cut and Saban was not pleased with the omission of his punter.
"In my opinion, JK is maybe the best punter in the country in terms of what he does for our team," Nick Saban said Wednesday. "His average, his consistency this year, his hang time... Our coverage unit has been better in that regard and I think we're in the top one, two or three in punt, net punt and all that in our conference, which speaks highly for the job that he's done. He's got good operation time.
"... I have respect for all these people who make these decisions. But in my opinion I think he's one of the best punters in the country and certainly one of the most valuable guys on our team."
The people responsible for deciding on the Ray Guy award did respond when asked for some clarification as to Scott's absence, whether or not Alabama likes their response is an entirely different story.
