An old recruiting quote is coming back to haunt Auburn's Gus Malzahn

Malzahn made the comment in the summer of 2015.

It looks like Gus Malzahn is embroiled in a bit of controversy again. However, this time it is for something that he said in the past instead of the present.

Michigan put together another great recruiting class on National Signing Day, and it prompted users on Twitter to bring up an old quote from Malzahn discussing how Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh would never be able to recruit in the south.

Michigan's 2017 class includes seven recruits from southern states, including four-star wide receiver Nico Collins from Alabama. Collins chose Michigan over Auburn and Alabama on Wednesday, and his commitment was likely the big spark behind the old quote reappearing on social media.

Of course, Michigan's success isn't exactly holding back any of the schools that Harbaugh is theoretically stealing from. Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, LSU, and Florida all finished in the Top 10 in 247Sports recruiting rankings, so those teams still have a lot to be excited about.

However, Harbaugh is really making a splash with his commitment to building recruiting relations in the south, and it may really benefit him and Michigan in the future.
