Report: Transferring Auburn defender may not have had a choice

The alleged incident involved another teammate.

Auburn announced on Thursday that defensive back Marlon Character Jr. would be transferring from the program after just one season, and a new report is emerging that Character may not have had much of a decision in the matter.

According to Brandon Marcello of 247Sports, Character may have been encouraged to leave after an alleged confrontation with a teammate two weeks ago.

He was nudged to leave after an apparent incident with a teammate in recent weeks, two sources told AuburnUndercover over the span of the last two weeks. The incident was an intense argument and confrontation between teammates.

While Auburn also announced the transfer of Antwuan Jackson on Thursday, the 247Sports report says that Jackson was not the other teammate involved in the incident, and that the other unnamed player is expected to stay with the school.

Character was a three-star recruit of the 2016 class, and he was expected to be a contributor in the secondary for Auburn this upcoming season. The loss of Jackson may be more important, though, as he was a Top 50 recruit coming out of high school last year.
