A familiar name has become the odds on favorite to become Florida's next head coach

This shouldn't surprise anyone.

Jim McElwain's ousting in Gainesville has produced quite a few opinions on the state of the Florida Gators football program. That, of course, is not a shock but much of the chatter has now shifted to just who will take over the full-time reins. As you may imagine, the takes are flowing, but on Tuesday the good folks at BetOnline.ag released betting odds on who will be hired for the job and a (very) familiar name sits atop the list.

Former Florida offensive corrdinator and current Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen sits at +350 and that isn't a surprise. He has been connected to the job with former Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin now at the helm in Gainesville and it would be anything but surprising to see Mullen in that chair.

Behind him, Memphis head coach Mike Norvell and UCF head coach Scott Frost make the cut and there are even odds on the board for Lane Kiffin, Steve Spurrier and Tim Tebow. Those names are clearly less serious, but in the case of Mullen it makes quite a bit of sense that Florida would go in that direction.

Regardless, there will be ongoing speculation until Florida names a full-time coach and we can all grab our popcorn in anticipation.
