One school could unexpectedly be back in the running for grad transfer Malik Zaire

This could be huge for a team in desperate need of his skills.

Former Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire is probably the hottest and most coveted graduate transfer this offseason. He was originally thought to be favoring Florida —- a school in desperate need of a good quarterback —- until people realized that the Gators were unable to take on another graduate transfer due to specific SEC rules. The rules state that a school who has taken on two graduate transfers who have either not passed or finished classes over a certain period of time cannot take on any more of those transfers until a cooling off period takes place.

Zaire was originally going to commit to a school and enroll in time for spring classes, but has changed his course. This could signal that Florida is heavily in the mix with North Carolina and Wisconsin for his services. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey announced recently that the league could change its stance on the transfer rules. Should he get a change approved by the time the spring semester is over it seems that Florida will have Zaire in the bag.

He has thrown for 816 yards and six touchdowns in his Notre Dame career. Most notably, Zaire completely 31-of-37 (83.7-percent) passes in his two biggest starts against LSU in 2014 and Texas in 2015.
