Report: Not even Steve Spurrier could help Jim McElwain save his job at Florida

Unbelievable.

Jim McElwain has officially been fired by Florida and there's no one reason alone why he was fired. However, being the head man for a mediocre (at best) offense for three years while promising to score more points is probably a big one. He also had the services of legendary coach Steve Spurrier at his disposal though and apparently he felt he didn't need any the Head Ball Coach's help:

If you have a guy like Spurrier walking around the football offices how do you not talk to him all the time? He certainly doesn't want to be bothered coaching an entire team again, but he probably enjoys going over offenses and giving out pointers when he's got nothing else going on.

You have to at least listen to him though if he's offering help like Hayes is suggesting. To rebuff him twice is just ludicrous and is definitely an offense worth firing someone over like Hayes said. Spurrier only a Hall of Fame coach and coached the Gators to a national title in 1996 as well as six SEC titles and eight division titles. It just doesn't make sense.
