Phil Steele names his "No. 1 surprise team" and a darkhorse to make playoffs

Ok then!

The SEC East is pretty much up for grabs this season as there isn't an overwhelming favorite to take the division. Florida may very well have a top-5 defense again despite the losses to the NFL Draft this season. Tons of guys were seeing the field because of injuries so they have experience they wouldn't have seen otherwise. That should give the younger players some confidence heading into the big game against Michigan to start the season.

A win in that game could spur the Gators on to a big season and they have a favorable home schedule as they face their toughest competition there. They'll host LSU, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Florida State with a neutral site game against Georgia this season.
