Former National Championship winner could be a candidate for vacant head coaching gig

This would be a huge long shot.

UConn football has officially fired coach Bob Diaco after three seasons. He finished his tenure with a 11-26 record with his best season coming last year when the team finished with a 6-7 record.

The Huskies will be looking for a new coach and Aaron Torres of Fox Sports thinks they should reach out to former head coach Les Miles, who went 114-34 in 12 seasons at LSU, considering he has expressed a desire to be back on the sidelines in 2017:

It's the longest of long shots, but we know that Miles wants to get back into coaching, and we know he got very little buzz on the coaching carousel this winter.

Sure, UConn will almost certainly want to go with an offensive guy. And sure, Miles has said he only wants to go to a school that can compete for championships. But if you're UConn, you at least have to make a call to a guy who won two SEC titles and a national championship, right?

The Mad Hatter has been mentioned for several head coaching jobs including Baylor, Purdue and Houston. However, all of those jobs went to other people and now he might have to take this one if he is serious about getting back on the sidelines in 2017.
