Ed Orgeron’s audition for the LSU head coaching gig fell apart Saturday night in a 10-0 loss to Alabama.

According to 247sports, the loss was mostly expected and feelings on where he stands are reportedly “up in the air.” He’ll have to win all three remaining games to have a legitimate shot, per the report.

The report also follows rumored names FSU’s Jimbo Fisher, Houston’s Tom Herman, North Carolina’s Larry Fedora and Louisville’s Bobby Petrino as on a short list of candidates for the position.

After rattling off a 3-0 record and averaging over 40 points per game once he took over for Les Miles, LSU’s offense fell off against the Tide. That’s why if the Tigers hire Orgeron, he’ll have to “have a clear plan in place to land a top-flight offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach,” per the report.

Quarterback Danny Etling had one of his worst outings since taking over the job. He looked shaken from the get-go, registering a 5.7 raw quarterback rating.

The same could be said for Brandon Harris last season. And Anthony Jennings the year before that.

It’s a dreadful trend that must be stopped. And that’s by developing a spread offense that can match Alabama’s yearly unstoppable defense.
