Tennessee and defensive coordinator part ways

Tennessee made a surprise announcement on Wednesday by "mutually parting ways" with defensive coordinator John Jancek. Jancek has followed head coach Butch Jones from Central Michigan to Cincinnati to Tennessee. However, it seems his time in Knoxville has come to a close.

The Vols' third-down defense was tops in the conference and third of all FBS teams while their total defense was 36th in the country and 16th in scoring defense. The timing seems odd, but Jancek may be looking for an NFL job with so many openings there and it seems that there are already growing rumors as to who will replace him.

Auburn reached out to Shoop multiple times regarding their coordinating vacancy, but the Nittany Lions coach declined to even speak about the opportunity.
