There's not a better defender on the field than this college football official

This ref might really be playing for the other team.

Refs sometimes get accused of playing for the other team, but there's probably never been more valid grounds for such a claim than this play in Friday's Sun Bowl between North Carolina and Stanford.

It happened in the game's second quarter when umpire Tom Quick dislodged the ball from Tarheel quarterback Mitch Trubisky on a scramble. The ensuing fumble was recovered by Stanford defensive end Dylan Jackson.

Quick did appear to try and get out of the way of the play, but that surely didn't do much to calm Carolina fans, who watched Stanford capitalized on the turnover with a field goal.

CBS broadcaster Brad Nessler joked about the play during his call.

"Tom Quick with the forced fumble," Nessler quipped.

Color commentator Gary Danielson also got a laugh out of it, saying that at the end of the play Trubisky "looks at the umpire and goes, 'C'mon man."

Stanford won the game 25-23.
