Week 1 is gone, but fear not! Week 2 is almost here and it will have some trouble living up to what we got in the opening week of the season.
However, even with some lesser matchups, there could still be some big upsets that can change the landscape of college football. Two of our three picks from Week 1 proved to be right. How will we do in Week 2?
No. 13 Louisville
Sept. 9 vs. Syracuse
We've already had some sparks from this game, with Louisville coach Bobby Petrino claiming the Dino Babers-led Orange broke a few rules in their opener.
This will be a good test to see if Louisville's defense can stand up at a contending level. We know that they will be fine with quarterback Lamar Jackson on offense, but if the defense can't handle the fast-paced Syracuse offense, then things could get ugly.
No. 17 Tennessee
Sept. 10 vs. Virginia Tech
After Tennessee's performance in Week 1 against Appalachian State — needing overtime to beat the Mountaineers — I guess we might have to hold judgment on if this is actually an upset. Right now, though, Tennessee is favored by over ten points, so it fits in the category.
The good news for Tennessee is that they likely didn't show all of their offense in that game against App. State. Quarterback Josh Dobbs was hardly schemed to run the ball at all, and that is something that should change against more difficult opponents.
Virginia Tech is still a question mark under new head coach Justin Fuente, but we know they have talent, and the presentation of a neutral field at Bristol Motor Speedway is interesting. You should certainly keep an eye on this one just for the atmosphere.
No. 15 TCU
Sept. 10 vs. Arkansas
Both of these teams didn't exactly have the season-openers that they wanted. TCU struggled with South Dakota State, and Arkansas had problems with Louisiana Tech. Certainly leaves a lot to be desired.
The problem in this game could be an old matchup of stoppbable force vs. movable object... or Arkansas's offense vs. TCU's defense. Arkansas's offense is terrible, but they gave up 41 points to the Jackrabbits. That doesn't inspire a ton of confidence.
