Recent Star Wars: Battlefront II trailer reveals details about Imperial protagonist

Precious few details have been revealed about the story.

For all the reasons to be disappointed over 2015's Star Wars: Battlefront, few would expect the lack of a single-player campaign to weigh heavily against it. Yet, weigh it did. The original Battlefront 2  that released in 2005 is still remembered fondly today for its story, which put players in control of the 501st Legion through the events of the films - including their eventual betrayal of the Jedi.

The announcement of a single-player campaign for the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront II however has many players hoping for a revival of their childhood experience. In a recent trailer released over the official PlayStation YouTube media channel, the developers seem willing to confirm this hope. Check it out:

For those who can't view it, the video is a compilation of developer commentary with gameplay from a trailer that released earlier this year. Among a number of other interesting tidbits, a variety of details have been revealed about Battlefront II's protagonist, a woman named Iden Versio.

Versio is an elite tie-fighter pilot from the Empire. Unlike much of the movies' portrayal of Imperial soldiers however, the developers remarked on a keen desire to humanize her - and the rest of the Empire in doing so.

"We want to do it [the story] from an Imperial point of view, because it hasn't really been done - at least, not in that fidelity before."

Iden Versio comes from an Imperial family. Her father's an Admiral, apparently, which creates deep ties to the traditionally villainous Empire. "She is the perfect candidate to believe in the Empire," one developer remarked.

Otherwise, precious few details have been revealed about the story of Battlefront II. At the moment speculation ranges between an on-the-rails, linear campaign and a galaxy-wide conquest that details the actual growth of the Galactic Empire. Hopefully players will be rewarded for their optimism with an experience worthy of the franchise - which could really mean anything at this point.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is scheduled to release on November 17, later this year. For future news follow the developers' official Twitter account, or visit the game's website.
