Tripwire Interactive announces Rising Storm 2: Vietnam open beta and release date

A focus on fighting in dense, jungle environments.

Famous for the development of the Killing Floor and Red Orchestra franchises, Tripwire Interactive has become well-known over the years as a small yet quality-driven studio. Although popular for only a handful of titles, its dedication to its products has led to quite the following in the gaming community, which is part of the reason why the recent announcement related to Rising Storm 2: Vietnam has created such a buzz.

Originally a stand-alone expansion pack for Red Orchestra 2, Rising Storm has since evolved into its own, separate series with a focus on fighting in dense, jungle environments.

While on the surface there is seemingly little to write home about, the actual appeal of the Rising Storm and Red Orchestra franchises comes from the unique gameplay. The developers place a deliberate emphasis on slow, realistic combat that rewards team efforts and punishes the actions of lone wolves. The fighting is nevertheless intense; players push in groups, forming around vehicles and tanks in order to break through stalemates in huge, concerted efforts that make all the tedium worthwhile.

In its official announcement over the game's Steam page, Tripwire Interactive revealed a number of pre-order and purchase bonuses to players who own Killing Floor 2.

"They will receive four bonus Rising Storm 2: Vietnam themed weapons skins to use in Killing Floor 2 for the PC. Those weapon skins include the RPG-7 rocket launcher, the M16 with M203 grenade launcher attachment, the M1911 automatic pistol and the classic Lever Action Rifle. Note - the weapon skins will be available as part of Killing Floor 2's next major update which will be announced at a later date."

As an added bonus, Tripwire has also decided to kick off the reveal with the launch of an Open Beta weekend set from today to the 22nd. Players unfamiliar with the franchise will have an opportunity to play Rising Storm 2: Vietnam before it goes live, giving them a chance to see if the purchase is really worth it. The actual game is currently scheduled to release May 30th.
