Stunning rumors have started to emerge over the upcoming WWE Championship match

Oh my goodness!

UPDATE: Mahal did the unreal and won Sunday night.

Could this really happen?

WWE's Backlash show is set for Sunday, and the show has already generated some controversy over Jinder Mahal's being the No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship against Randy Orton. In what will surely generate more controversy, rumors have started to emerge saying that Mahal may be winning the title on Sunday.

Per Cageside Seats:

There's a lot of speculation that WWE may be considering having Jinder Mahal win the title from Randy Orton for a sort of one month test run with it to see how it goes.

That's not all, as betting odds — yes, there are betting odds on wrestling and the rules are weird, but it's often accurate — have started to shift heavily in Mahal's favor.

Of course, Mahal could always win via some sort of disqualification where the title doesn't change hands, but the growing rumors are certainly intriguing.

Mahal winning the WWE Championship would certainly be an interesting storyline for WWE, as Mahal wasn't even a significant player for the company until last month. In fact, before Mahal was named the No. 1 contender to the title, he had only won two matches since the previous August.
