Baseball fans everywhere are mourning the violent death of a young New York Yankees player

A terrible loss.

Alexander Figueredo, a pitcher in the New York Yankees' minor league system, was shot and killed late last month in his native Venezuela, several media sources reported.

The 20-year-old lefthander was on the suspended/restricted list for the entire 2016 season, according to the New York Post. The newspaper reported he was shot multiple times outside of a party and died as a result.

The reason for Figueredo's suspension hasn't been publicly divulged. The Post noted that he was not considered a top prospect and chances are he would not have been back with the team as a result of his suspension.
