Fan suffers life-threatening injuries after getting struck with broken bat

We never think about how dangerous it could be watching a baseball game from the stands, especially those fans near the action down by the field. At tonight's Athletics-Red Sox game, a fan was stretchered out of the stadium after getting hit with A's third baseman Brett Lawrie's broken bat.

This is the swing that caused the woman to "profusely bleed," according to reporters on scene:

According to the Boston Globe, the woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital. We wish her and her family the best and hope she makes a speedy recovery.
