Superstar fighter Conor McGregor recently made a huge move by pairing up with another transcendent star, Floyd Mayweather, and announcing a fight. Though McGregor is known for his prowess in the MMA ring — and his personality outside of it — he'll be squaring off with Mayweather, widely considered one of the greatest of all-time, in a boxing match. But apparently, despite the overwhelming amount of money he's likely to make, McGregor will square off in the Octagon at least one more time after the Mayweather fight.
The fight will be must-see, if only for its crossover appeal. McGregor is one of the UFC's biggest stars and much like Mayweather, he's known for his ability to transcend the sport. They're both culture icons as much as they are fighters, but seeing an MMA star square off with perhaps the greatest boxer ever, not named Ali, will be interesting enough to watch on its own.
Hype aside, and there is plenty of it, it's worth noting that McGregor still has some unfinished business to take care of in the UFC. Though he's obviously exploring his value and draw outside of the Octagon, at least for this fight, the fact remains that he still holds UFC gold and sooner or later it would be great to see him defend it.
McGregor is the current lightweight (155) champion, a strap he won all the way back in November of 2016 by beating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.
One has to wonder if he'd still be down to fight and put his body (and mind) on the line after the huge payday he'll receive from the Mayweather fight. Even more interesting is the prospect of McGregor leaving the sport on top. After all, if he beats Floyd Mayweather on his own turf, what else will he have to accomplish in the world of professional fighting?

For what it's worth, UFC President Dana White is under the impression that McGregor will fight in the Octagon again because the lightweight champ has said he would. With that said, White didn't seem 100-percent convinced.
"According to him, he's going to fight," White said, according to MMA Junkie. "You don't know when you cash the check and you make that kind of money. I've seen it happen. Forget at fighting - I've seen it happen with guys in business. They get that big payday, and they're done. They don't want to work anymore. So, who knows? That will remain to be seen."
It's not the most solid of statements from White, because he's obviously wondering how the payday will impact McGregor's feelings, but as of now, it does seem like the UFC big-wig is anticipating his lightweight champion to be back in the UFC ring sometime in the future.
Of course, anything can happen, but that's half the fun of it, right? In UFC, that tends to be the draw. Anything can and will happen, especially when Conor McGregor is involved.
