ESPN reportedly set to cut a whopping $80 million in salaries in latest round of layoffs

ESPN is cutting $80 million in salary.

The latest round of ESPN layoffs are expected to hit in the next few weeks, and this wave will reportedly primarily affect employees working on SportsCenter.

Sporting News writer Michael McCarthy reports that ESPN is cutting $80 million in salaries, and as many as 100 jobs could be impacted.

"One source at a rival network said worried producers, directors and digital staffers are already sending off  "just-in-case" resumes to competitors such as FS1, NBCSN and Turner Sports," McCarthy wrote.

"Others ESPNers are numb, said another source, believing they survived the past two layoffs by the skin of their teeth."

The last round of layoffs impacted several well known personalities, including John Clayton, Ed Werder, Danny Kanell and Trent Dilfer.

Scott Van Pelt's SportsCenter will still be around, but it's possible other big name SC personalities could be impacted. Behind-the-scenes people will also likely be let go by the company.

ESPN has been forced to let go numerous employees after losing a $1 billion in revenue and dropped $13 million in subscribers over the last six years.

With viewership declining, ESPN probably has no choice but to layoff employees. It's unfortunate for those let go and the viewers, and ESPN will likely look much differently in the very near future.
