Sad sack flies to China to meet his love, hospitalized with what must be a broken heart

This is the worst case of getting catfished that we've ever seen

People get catfished so much these days that it never really garners much sympathy, mostly just ridicule.

However, the story of 41-year-old Dutchman Alexander Pieter Cirk is more than just a cautionary tale. It tugs at the heartstrings.

Cirk met a woman known only as Zhang online and fell so hard for her after two months of corresponding via text and social media, he decided he had to meet the love of his life.

He flew 3,000 miles to China and when Zhang didn't show up at Changsha Huanghua International Airport to greet him, he waited. And waited. Ten days later, he waited some more.

If it weren't for exhaustion finally landing Cirk in the hospital, the lovelorn Dutchman would probably still be at the airport waiting — think Tom Hanks in Terminal.
